Directions to Unify from 495 Capital Beltway and I-66 west

Take the Dulles Toll Road West Exit (Rt. 267). (WARNING: DO NOT take the Access Road which goes directly to Dulles Airport.) Take the Reston Parkway Exit. At the traffic light at the toll ramp turn left onto Reston Parkway. Turn right onto Sunrise Valley Drive (second light). Unify (#12020) is the building farthest on the right. Turn right onto Edmund Halley Drive to access the parking lot to the building.

Directions from Dulles Airport

Take the Dulles Access Road (Rt. 267) to the Reston Parkway Exit. Make a right onto Reston Parkway. At the next traffic light, turn right onto Sunrise Valley Drive. #12020 is the third building on the right. Turn right onto Edmund Halley Drive to access the parking lot to the building.

Messages

Messages for students are received by Unify Receptionists. The telephone number for student messages is (703) 264-8961. Incoming calls will not be forwarded to the classroom during class hours. You will be interrupted only in the case of an emergency.

Parking

There is ample free parking in the front of the building.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is not permitted in the classroom, break room, or offices of Unify. Smoking is permitted only in those areas that are clearly designated within the building or outside.

Climate

Washington has four distinct seasons. Spring is beautiful and alive with fresh greens and bright colors of blooming flowers and shrubs. Summer is hot, humid, and often hazy. Fall may bring the nicest weather with bright sunny days and cool northwest breezes. Winter is usually cold and damp with several storms and at least one major snowfall that can turn this northernmost of the southern cities into quite a mess.

Getting around

Subways and Busses: Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority operates Metrorail (subway) and local busses. Metro operates 5:30 am to midnight Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to midnight Saturday, and 10:00 am to midnight Sunday. Farecards can be purchased from machines in every station. A weekend Tourist pass allows unlimited travel on both busses and subways for up to four people on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays at a reduced fare.

Taxis: Taxis provide an alternative to public transportation and rented cars. More than 10,000 taxis cruise Washington streets, so hailing a cab should be no problem while in the city. You will, however, have to call ahead if you plan to use a Taxi to get from Reston, Virginia into the city or to the airport.

Tourmobile: If you are planning to spend one or more days touring the museums and monuments near the National Mall, consider using the Tourmobile. This is a National park Service concessionaire-operated, narrated sightseeing service that stops at all major points of interest on the Mall, Capitol Hill, and Arlington Cemetery. Tickets allow unlimited reboarding privileges and can be purchased from the driver as you board. Buses run 9:00 am to 6:30 pm from mid-June to Labor Day and 9:30 am to 4:30 pm the rest of the year.

Sightseeing Tours: There are more than 50 companies offering sightseeing tours. Consult the local yellow pages.

Advise for tipping

While 15% is standard for most meals and services, more is expected in luxury establishments that offer quality service. Here is what concierges advise: doorman obtain cab $1 bellman carrying bags $1 per bag cab driver 10-15% of the fare limousine driver 15% is usually added to the bill automatically maitre d at a top restaurant $5-$10 for a good table, $20 for special consideration on a busy night
